What started as a mesmerising dive into ‘Glass Puddles’ (you might remember my last post!) has definitely blossomed into something even more exciting in my Wallington studio. The way light plays with glass has always been my creative compass, and now, I’m exploring new ways to bottle that magic for your home.
My experiments with fused glass layers have led me to creating these beautiful, swirling discs of colour. And the question that naturally followed was: how can these captivating “puddles” truly shine and bring joy every single day?
That’s where the idea of suncatchers came in!

The Spark of an Idea: From Disc to Delight
I’ve been working on a new design that frames these vibrant glass discs in an open, deep, backless frame, allowing the light to dance through the multiple layers. Suspended by a delicate chain, they become little portals of colour, constantly shifting and sparkling with every change in light.
It’s been a fascinating process, learning to:
- Perfect the disc shape: Getting that satisfyingly round form for the layered glass, ensuring the edges are smooth and safe. And pressing the glass to get a disc thin enough to really allow the light to shine through.
- Design the ideal frame: Finding the balance between protecting the glass and allowing it to breathe and interact fully with light. An open, deep, backless frame seems to do just the trick, creating a lovely sense of depth.
- Choose the right suspension: Ensuring the chain is sturdy yet elegant, allowing the suncatcher to hang beautifully in a window or bright space.
Why Suncatchers? It’s All About the Light!
For me, these suncatchers embody everything I love about glass. They’re not just decorative pieces; they’re dynamic art. When the sunlight hits these layered discs, the colours explode, casting beautiful, dancing patterns around the room. It’s a moment of pure, simple happiness.
And that’s what “handmade with heart” truly means to me – creating pieces that bring a little bit of wonder and warmth into your everyday. Each suncatcher holds the story of my learning, my experiments, and the joy I find in watching glass come alive with light
